Heartland Forward Includes Atlas to Help Decision-makers Access Aata

Report offers qualitative and quantitative look at the causes, effects and possible policy solutions to improve health services and workforce opportunities in rural communities.

“Heartland report helps rural communities navigate health care,” was the Axios headline when Heartland Forward released their report – Health Care Access in the Heartland: How to improve services in rural America.

The report offers a qualitative and quantitative look at the causes, effects and possible policy solutions to improve health services and workforce opportunities for rural communities including two interactive tools.

The Rural Health Care Accessibility Atlas, powered by Metopio, focused on key areas of access, affordability and adaptability in order for states and communities to create equitable quality health services for their residents. Good health is key to a happier and more productive community and workforce, which in turn leads to a higher Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The Atlas provides county data and analysis to:

  • inform communities about health care access and outcomes,

  • provide tools to enhance workforce performance and participation, and

  • manage preventive care and chronic disease.

The Atlas aggregates millions of publicly available data points across 50 key topics to allow citizens and decision makers to easily access common data resources for developing health care access at the county level.

“Making our policy recommendations available in addition to curating data provides an ongoing resource for communities to understand opportunities and make investments in their communities. We’re excited that the core data will continue to be updated for users across these key topics.”
— Dave Shideler, Chief Research Officer, Heartland Forward

The Atlas measures and compares counties by demographics, health indicators, risk factors and health care access. The tool also provides an assessment of telemedicine policies across the study area and allows users to download large data sets, maps, charts, county one-pagers that are customizable and granular in detail.

“Communities deserve better access to better data to maximize the impact they can have,” said Angie Grover, Chief Operating Officer at Metopio. “We’re proud to partner with Heartland Forward to take an incredibly positive step towards improving health care access to people who live in rural areas by taking a data-driven approach to policy and programmatic work.”
